The Panic

DSC00020

DSC00023

There was rumor yesterday that all petrol stations will be on strike the next day and fuel will not be sold to the public for a period of time, some say 8 hrs, some say one day, some say up to two weeks!!!

So the crowd panicked... I don't know why... but they panicked and starting queuing up at the petrol stations!

It made no sense to me, why they have to pump fuel so desperately...

The gas station won't be on strike forever, and how one's car need to pump fuel EVERYDAY is a mystery to me!

What is most disgusting to me, is that, because of this bunch of crazy panickers, there was a massive traffic jam and I was stranded in the midst for 1.5 hours before reaching home after work. Normally, it would only take me 30 min to reach home!

All I can say is Sabahan is really kiasu and kiasi!

Flute - How it's made!

This is so cool!

My love for the flute grows day by day...

I really should have started playing it a lot more sooner... :)

Final Fantasy musical

These really bring back memories...

FF years... represents my youth, my sweet teenage years...
long gone years...

And the music from the game has already become part of me!

Now seeing them played by the real orchestra... is really an emotional experience!

GOOD GAME, GOOD MUSIC!

Which just show how serious is the Japanese in their work.
For a game console, they have professional musician to create such fine music!

How to not respect this nation?

4 days week?

By all means!!!

Government made suggestion for 4-work-day/week...
My first reaction, as it is, the government sector are already so unproductive...
Now they need only work 4 days, that just be too good to them!

On second thought, I think it's a good idea
because they are so lazy anyway, working 5 days or 4 days,
they'd still do same amount of job.
So better let them work 4 days, at least Friday can save some electricity for the country!

And what is more appealing to me is that,
if the courts only work 4 days per week...
then I DON'T NEED TO BE A PENGUIN ON FRIDAY!!!
and the office will be so peaceful without having to get calls from the government agency on Fridays...

Friday will then surely be a casual work day...
if the office decide to still make Friday a working day ... that is!
(Legal firms normally follows the government sector's working system).

SLA Legal Clinic

I was assigned as duty counsel at the SLA today...
Reached SLA office slightly before 930 (as scheduled to)
and already there were client waiting.

It's a family case involving a child born out of wedlock by a foreigner mother...
whose father is a local but was not married to the mother because he is already married.

After giving them some basic advice, including telling them that as the no father was named in the birth certificate,
it's correct for the registry to record the child as "non Malaysian" as the registry followed the nationality of the mother, I advised them to seek more experienced family lawyer for further details as I was only a duty counsel for the day and one that is not well versed with family law at all.

Right after that is a pair of sisters with also with "family problem"... but they came for the brother. Claiming that he was falsely accused of being indecent to his children and the wife left the house ... and how "kasian" the brother having to go through the ordeal of reporting to the police station every month as he is under police bail now... due to the police report made by the estranged wife... they asked me what should they do about it! :) ... I told them to get his brother to file for divorce and not to worry too much about the police bail "as long as you know for sure your brother didn't do it". If there were not enough evidence and sooner or later, the police will drop the case.

After that was a contractor claiming he gets a 4.2 mil project from Tun M... but need legal aid for advice... about his bank account being frozen and he has no idea as to why... I tried my best to be patient and listened to him through... but it was so difficult to understand what he was telling me... which involves some bank manager cheating his money... government project being snatched... deposit money being frozen... at the end, I told him the bank will never freeze customer's money without reason and that he should go to the bank to get to the bottom of it first.

....

After this, a bit of coffee and photo album at the SLA and its already 1230pm...
I left the SLA and went up to the office for a peep...
After all, there will be a new girl coming into the office on Monday as my legal secretary.
Finally, after surviving 6.5 months of practice without an assistant, I am getting "a girl".
So you really can't blame my exciting over it...
I went to the office to clean up the old secretary "work area", rearranged the tables and cabinets so that it look more pleasing to work ...

DSC00015 I know it may still look a little "too humble"...
But that's the best I could do for her for now...
I have already ordered a new desk from "the boss" for her... which should be delivered on Monday.

UMPC

UMPC = Ultra Mobile PC... it's the IN THING in the PC world now.
And I am looking forward to owning one myself to "show off" at the KK court premises...
(hey, they provided free wifi access for the court premise for what if I don't make full use of the service right?)

Since Asus launched its eeepc last year (which caught my heart immediately),
all the major PC manufacturer also started to copycat!

There's HP UMPC2133

Then Dell's Dell E

Forcing Asus to chase up with an eeepc 1000

Now I don't know which to buy... maybe you can help me decide?

(If you wonder why I didn't compare to Acer's UMPC the Aspire One, that's because I've used two Acer laptops and enough is enough!)

What it means to be a junior lawyer

Had lunch today, for a change...
it's only once a blue moon that I eat lunch!

Bumped into a few colleagues so we sat around the same table for the meal...

We started talking and...
one was telling he was so fed up with litigation and wants to do conveyancing!
Hahaha... no doubt conveyancing is a lot more less stressful, I'd surely agree!
Coz I am no litigant too...

But sometimes, we don't get to choose what we want to do.
When I first started chambering, I was so determined to be a criminal lawyer.
And because of that, I've had some very painful experience.
That totally changed my mind about pursuing a career in criminal litigation.

Then I went on to a corporate legal firm,
but I find the corporate world unfriendly...
didn't like defending big corporations in bullying the people...
so I left... and find myself here at a firm in my home town.

Where the people is less complicated
a lot more friendlier and approachable.

But, still having been a lawyer for nearly one year now,
(I was officially a lawyer on 15.06.2007)
all I can say is, it's not easy being a junior lawyer...
only those who could endure judges' humiliation in court,
those who could easily take the blame even though it's not his/her mistakes,
those who could still drag him/herself to the office every morning knowing there'll just be "unfinishable" work waiting,
those who could still smile at the end of the day after all the scoldings, threats and "unfriendly words" from clients,
those who could still sleep at night...
those who could still enjoy the "free time" of weekends...

only these can move ON, and hopefully, in 5 years time,
to move UP to be a real lawyer!

Here's what I had as my "once in a blue moon lunch":

Smiling Ian

For those who have never seen him smile... Photobucket
This picture is so precious!

Datuk Ian recently made "explosive judicial disclosures" in open court where he was sitting for the proceedings of the election petition filed by the DAP candidate for the Sarikei Parliament seat. Please read all about it here.

Here's the group picture taken (25.05.1997)... I wonder how corruptable is our judiciary...Photobucket

Mystery Case Files

Recently the staff of the Firm has been crazy about this game:

I saw them playing and played a bit myself...
it's a puzzle game with hidden items for you to discover!

See if you can find the items listed on the right in this picture...

I simply like the graphics... here are some more:

Yummy Rice Dumpling

PICT0336 PICT0341 PICT0337

This one is bought from Inanam wet market...
made at home by a church member of BCCM Inanam!

Her rice dumpling has always been the nicest I've ever tasted!

The size is nice, not too big but generous!
The glutinous rice is tender but firm, look, it is a whole pyramid shape after unwrapped from the bamboo leaves...

And the filling... the pork is just nice, not too thin not too fat, just just right!

Hahaha.... auntie not just sell rice dumpling for the festival,
in fact, she sells it every Saturday at the Inanam wet market!

So if you happen to be there in the early morning, go try some her rice dumpling.
Oh, she makes very nice "woo-gok" (yam puff) too!

Congrats!!!

And... as it's also the Chinese rice dumpling festival, a client of the firm "supplied":

PICT0328 too bad, it's "bad" already... (the glutinous rice fermented... yucky!)

CHANGE

Those who bow their heads during election then act like royalty after winning, are not real politicians!

Those who don't use words that can be understood by everyone are not real politicians!

Those who prioritize their own interest over happiness of the people are not real politicians.

And most of all, not knowing what the people hate, what they desire, and what they want to believe in... those who doesn't know these cannot be a real Prime Minister!

There's a lot of those like that in the political world...

If becoming a professional politician means obeying their rules,
then I don't want to be a professional.

I promise, with eyes like yours,
I will find the problem in politics and correct it.

I promise, with ears like yours,
I will seriously listen to the tiniest voice of those who are called weak.

I promise, with legs like yours,
I will run without hesitation towards the problem scene.

I promise with hands like yours,
I will work with my sweat and blood
towards the path that this country should take.

My everything... my everything will be just like yours!

6月4日

It rained... and the petrol price went up again!

This time, it's a big 78 cents jump...

My little Tiara has a fuel tank capacity of 43 litres,
that means it will cost me RM33.54 more...
(hmmm maybe should go buy 4D: 3354!)

I need 3 full tank per month,
so my expenses has just increased by RM100.62 per month!

It maybe a small amount compared to a lot big car owners out there...
but mind you, I am a sorry lawyer with a sorry pay of RM2+++ ONLY!

... arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

And I am supposed to pump petrol today, tank empty already since yesterday, but have forgotten to do so AGAIN... and now from what I heard, cars are already piling up at the petrol stations causing massive traffic jam everywhere... coupled with the heavy down pour... sigh... I just hope there's petrol left for me tomorrow when I really need to refill my fuel tank!

Sigh sigh sigh...

And to add salt to wound...
electricity also will increase by 30%!

This is a strange country indeed...
we export petroleum but can't subsidise own consumption!
but we can sent a fashion model to the space (nearly to the moon)
we can build the tallest building (once)... in twins!
we can send the national car to Mt Everest and yelling BOLEH like mad men...

HOW CAN?
Boleh boleh boleh...

Celtic Woman

WOW!

I'm practising the flute on Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring and
looked up the internet for performance of the tune
and found Celtic Woman ...

Who says classical church music is boring...
well if you find this boring, I've got nothing else to say to you anymore!
We just don't share the same brain wavelength!

Lyrics:

Jesu, joy of man's desiring,
Holy Wisdom, Love most bright;
Drawn by Thee, our souls, aspiring,
Soar to uncreated light.
Word of God, our flesh that fashion'd,
With the fire of life impassion'd,
Striving still to truth unknown,
Soaring, dying, round Thy throne.
